???

wyrd, the root of weird, means "what must be"

vowels anagrams to wolves, as in wolves in sheeps clothing, they are a "gift" from the students of the phoenicians to "help" us pronounce words.

from pro: out, in public
and nuntius: messenger
If there is any hope, it must lie in the proles..but why the proles, How are they most free to act?

Interesting how "weird" and "fate" originate from the same origin..... The roots of those 2 words make up dozens of common words like: universe, verse, prose, vortex, invert, fable, fairy, famous, infant, prophet, symphony, etc....

http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/when-is-w-a-vowel

From the comments:  m old and the rule I learned long long ago was that W is a vowel in words like Know , show, Grow etc... where it acts like a silent E. I noticed that you didn't use any of these words in your examples. But since you did dismess the idea of G ever being a vowel when it does the same thing

Hmmm 'G' is a hidden vowel or at least one that is not really talked about.

W - "double u"

...used to be written as "uu" or "vv" and the lower case w looks suspiciously like "omega":

Im far from an authority on linguistics but ive never seen g referenced as a vowel anywhere.

Looking back at that poster's comment, he does not give any example.

I can think of a case for the word gnaw where g is like silent e.

interesting word hmmm

What about -ght" words like "thought" or "light"?

......and sometimes gh

"Y"
a late-developing letter in English. Called ipsilon in German, upsilon in Greek, the English name is of obscure origin. The sound at the beginning of yard, yes, yield, etc. is from Old English words with initial g- as in got and y- as in yet, which were considered the same sound and often transcribed as Ȝ, known as yogh. The system was altered by French scribes, who brought over the continental use of -g- and from the early 1200s used -y- and sometimes -gh- to replace Ȝ.

the igh vowel combo is interesting

Light
Might
with a silent k even :Knight
Tight
Night
Flight
Plight
Sight

I think that linguists argue over these points of what makes a vowel.

Does anyone remember the spelling of the true name of creator that we do not have the pronunciation for?

I've seen it written "OIU, OIV, OIW, DIU, and DIW"....but this book also makes reference to a 10 letter name that only the Bards knew and were forbidden to share....
