Never thought it to be true as well. The “evidence” of this circulating around are some vases/pots/artwork depicting these vile acts. Doesn’t seem like enough. The worst form of inequality is making unequal things equal... This narrative has helped to put the great things of the greeks in the background, from ways of academia, military training, stoicism and so on.
Here I wil state truths many are unaware of unburdened by having to prove them..lol if you want to decry or support feel free.
Lets kick it off right.
Homsexuality was not only not practiced by the Spartans it was abhorred and grounds for loss of rights of a citizen in all of Greece, even ultra liberal Athens
If you enter a mans posterior in general is that 'homosexuality' or is that something else? Is the act itself homosexuality or is it a little more detailed than that? I still have to research this myself but if they took citizens rights away from this but let their most advanced soldiers use it then they clearly saw something of a double edged sword of lethality to this practice.
The Spartans not only didn't practice it but abhorred it.
So in school and "higher institutions" of so called learning they teach that Greeks started and readily accepted homosexuality and pedophilia within their society. It never rang to true to me when I heard that. To me, it always seemed as it was a way to mock the people and their culture. So who taught and mainstreamed homosexuality and pedophilia throughout the ages? I'm assuming it was the Jews that brought such depravity and corruption to a culture to watch it be destroyed from within.
Would I be right in saying - the modern greeks have basically no connection to the ancient greeks in the same way ancient egyptians have no genetic connection to the modern ones?
I'm going to weigh in here, but would love to hear Nicks thoughts on it as well. I love history and genetics and do an awfully lot of reading about the stuff in my free time and from what I discovered the Hellenistic Greeks- who were blue eyed and blonde haired migrated northward. From what I gather the Germanic and Celtic peoples are probably the closest genetically to the ancient Hellenistic Greeks. Today's Greeks are mostly mixed with Arabic/Turkish blood which is why a lot of them have black hair and a dark complexion.
History repeats itself and it seems to be a similar story today with the migration of Middle Easterners into Western Europe which draws parallels to what happened to the Hellenistic Greeks that decided to stay in Greece. There is no doubt in my mind that after some of the Hellenistic Greeks migrated Northward into Western Europe, that the ones who chose to stay behind has their bloodline purposely muddied by the Arabs like were seeing today in Western Europe.
If you look at the Arabs genetically as a whole they look like a very "white-washed" mulatto gene pool that now only has a small percentage African DNA left. It's odd isn't that when you categorize race that Middle Eastern is not considered it's own category or an option. I guess they were considered the Hispanics of antiquity as not to have their own category of race, but only a distinct and recognizable culture. Which coincidently always had me wondering what was the original blood line of the inhabitants of the Middle East were prior to their race mixing with local Africans?
On a side note there is a big Greek community where I live called Tarpon Springs and even though most of the Greeks in this area have Turkish influence in their genetics as almost all of them are dark haired with dark complexion, they all speak of a time when they were once blonde hair and blue eyed before the Turks came in and raped their people and their culture. These Greeks even though they now share a similar bloodline with the Turkish people vehemently hate them for trauma. It is such a deep rooted hatred that it must be both biological and spiritual in nature as it seems to be a trauma that is remembered and carried on within their DNA...
