Robbins began his career promoting seminars for motivational speaker and author Jim Rohn when he was 17 years old.[8][9][10]
In the early 1980s, soon after meeting Neurolinguistic Programming co-founder John Grinder, the two became partners. At this time Robbins taught NLP and Ericksonian Hypnosis.[10] In 1983 Robbins learned to firewalk, and incorporated it into his seminars.[11]
In 1988 Robbins released his first infomercial, Personal Power, produced by Guthy Renker,[12] which helped to promote his services as a "peak performance coach". The infomercial helped Robbins gain wide exposure, selling his Personal Power self-help audiotapes. His early infomercials featured celebrities such as Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton and actor Martin Sheen. By 1991 an estimated 100 million Americans in 200 media markets had seen his infomercials.[13]

Guthy-Renker was founded in 1988 by Bill Guthy and Greg Renker. In 1995, it began distributing the acne treatment Proactiv, which became responsible for more than half its revenues by 2005. The company also created seven subsidiaries in the late 1990s for different products and advertising channels. In 1996, it founded an infomercial channel, GRTV, which was sold to TVN Entertainment Corporation in 1999. Guthy-Renker's revenues grew from $400 million in 2001 to $1.5 billion by 2009. It formed a joint venture with Nestle Skin Health in 2016 whereby Nestle now manages Proactiv.
Guthy-Renker was founded in November 1988 by Bill Guthy and Greg Renker, who met at the Indian Wells Racquet Club and Resort in Indian Wells, California.[
funny... I can't quite find the Racquet Club. There's an Indian Wells Resort, and Indian Wells Country Club, but nothing with Racquet in their name.
There IS the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

There really are not that many Asians in the desert here. Mostly older people, Canadian snowbirds, Indians /Native Americans (they often call themselves Indians), gay men (esp older gay couples), and a large middle class of Hispanics who moved there for cheap housing.
So it's a little unusual to have an Asian child in the area.
This is also down the street from the Thunderbird Estates, where Obama liked to visit. Many Ambassadors live there. It's not far from Palm Springs International airport.
anyways...
Guthy-Renker's first products were self-help and motivational courses.[23] The founders bought the rights to a self-help book they were both fans of, Think and Grow Rich, for $100,000 and aired their first infomercial selling the book in 1988. The infomercials were hosted by former football quarterback Fran Tarkenton and grossed $10 million in sales.[9][24] Another early product marketed by Guthy-Renker was Tony Robbins's "Personal Power" series of motivational lectures.
