Don't mean to hijack this discussion (love it - I can't stand modern movies, and hadn't even thought of the montage being gone). One thing on non-linear story telling I always felt this was just most people can't stand these kinds of movies. I always loved them. Memento comes to mind obviously as does much of Nolan's work (he plays with time constantly - and then made a whole movie about nothing but time). But most people seem to hate these kinds of films - the material and presentation hint as something grander, but it requires thought/synthesis.
One thing I was just looking into - related to another thread (compiling an essay on abortion)...
Aphrodites son...
Eros
700 bce), Eros was a primeval god, son of Chaos, the original primeval emptiness of the universe, but later tradition made him the son of Aphrodite, goddess of sexual love and beauty, by either Zeus (the king of the gods), Ares (god of war and of battle), or Hermes (divine messenger of the gods).
How tf is a SON a PRIMEVAL (beginning) god? Unless we've been looking at the concept differently. Irc Nick once mentioned eros being one of the hidden ruling powers rn. Are parents in the context of gods a synthesis of lower forces to something more "divine" - similar to nietzsche's concept of apollonian (godlike) vs. dionysian (animalistic)? Now that I think of it - perhaps this isn't so off topic after all (with time being a construct after all - although this concept is still one I can't grasp). Something hits me as to why it seems we're hear to challenge our parents.
