In Mao’s China women were told that there was no difference btw them & men. We were taught to dress & act like men. During the Cultural Revolution the first killing by the Red Guards were committed by young girls. We were to prove that we could outdo men in anything.

In today’s Woke America we are told there is no difference btw the sexes. Men can become women by simply identifying themselves to be so.

I came a full circle!

Mao wrote a poem praising women with “toxic” masculinity: Chinese women prefer carrying guns than wearing makeup. It was made into a popular song.
We grew up singing this song as part of our indoctrination.

Some asked me to translate the poem. It is not easy. Here is my attempt:

As the rising sun just shines the military training ground,
Militiawomen are ready with rifles in their hands.
The daughters of China have extraordinary aspiration,
They prefer carrying weapons than making themselves beautiful.

Hope someone will step in with a better translation.

Here’s an interesting discussion on /Serbia. (Different colors means different people replying)


What is the Serbian equivalent of a Ghoul or Strigoi.
You know a haunted corpse that returns to cannibalise other corpses.

Ghoul is basically a zombie that eats other corpses (long story actually, they originate from Arabic cultures) and Strigoi (Striga) are form of Undead that can shapeshift into an animal (which makes Dracula a version of Striga due to Bat thing)

We have no names for those in particular, even though we have similar folklore creatures. Bauk is a word that could potentially describe a broader sense of Ghoul, but there aint no Striga in Serbia, or at least name for those.

Maybe "andjama" old people use that word for i guess some kind of evil that roams free at night, i don't know what exactly it represents. But as someone said vampir is a Serbian word.

Alright, all of my info is coming from a teen/YA book by Nenad Gajić, but it should still prove interesting and fairly accurate. (as accurate as you can be in mythology.)

So, apart from the obvious one being a vampir(e), we have a creature called Besomar/Besomor. Some consider it a mix of a vampire and werewolf, a creature similar to a vampire, demon/undead prince, and some think it is just another colloquial term for a vampire. What makes this one interesting is that it commands an army of Bes (evil undead spirits that possess people.) which is also our word for anger.

Now, as for the actual corpse-eating creature, one actually fits the bill perfectly! It's named Psoglav (literally meaning Dog-Head) and it is actual nightmare fuel. It has 3 or 1 eye, head of a dog with iron teeth, stands on two legs which end in horse hooves. They are native to the underworld, they open graves to eat the flesh of the deceased, and they appear to have even been adapted into a DnD monster, movie/book creature, etc. It is perhaps the only one that has a moderately accurate artwork to it within a quick google search.

Then, we have Bauk, which people have already mentioned in his thread, though I would characterize Bauk as Boggart because that is how it was translated for Harry Potter. (Though Slavs do also have shapeshifters/changelings as well.)

The more appropriate word might be Akrep or Avet, though the word is used for ugly and stupid people respectively, it also characterizes many different forms of creatures of darkness/undead.

Finally, there is Navi, which is basically another demon/undead that drinks blood, but this one appears to be able to become invisible, shapeshifts into a bird with baby head, loves to kill and eat babies and their mothers, and drinks the mother's milk so the babies starve.

Now that I have written all of this, I am starting to realize how fucking dark ancient slavic mythology was.
Edit: Also, there are probably plenty more, but I got bored, and I think Psoglav and Besomor fit the description well so I decided to stop.
