I've been fascinated for a while with the particular section of the Johari window called the Blind Spot. It's the aspect of yourself that everyone else sees, but that you don't. We all have one. It encompasses all of our habits and perspectives that influence our decisions, and that are visible to everyone else but us.

Do you know someone to continues to think a certain way? A way that may cause more problems for them than not? And you think to yourself, if I could just make them see! We all know someone like that. Funny thing is, some of us might be that person in someone else's world. Imagine how tptb leverage this blind spot on all of us.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that in each of our blind spot is a wealth of solutions to the problems that have most frustrated us in our lives. We create our reality, and so when we are creating a reality we don't want despite our best intentions, could it be there is something we are creating blindly that we are not aware we are creating? Therein lies a key. A key to a massive hidden door.

Maybe it's not often that it happens but I find myself and my more positive attributes and accomplishments shoved into a 'blind spot'. When someone asks "Well what are you good at?" and you apparently can't think of anything.
Though I think that may be more due to insecurities and some ego influence but I'm not that sure.

What I do before I try to solve any problem in my own world, mental, physical or otherwise, I first think "I am responsible for what ever is going on right now" and with that in mind, it makes finding the 'real issue' a lot easier than it could have been.
You have to be able to look at what your doing/done and remove any shame or guilt from the analyzing process if you actually want to locate the problem and not feel 'bad' about it.

I think we have been programmed a great deal to consistently beat ourselves down not in a constructive manner but more in a 'you aren't good at anything. You're so stupid' kind of way.

In children, the blind spot is the dominant section, which is why they are naturally self-accepting.

My blind spot definitely reigned my childhood, today it's the "shadow" of course. I know it shows because I often laugh back at 90% of my posts here lol. The instant I'm alone or when situation demands my attitude shifts and the goal is to emulate that shadow especially where magick is concerned. There is great power in wielding the blind spot, we all do it unconsciously yet when it's roped to the forefront it drives the chariot of our will like none other.

What do you mean by shadow?

Yeah shadow self springs to mind for me too. That part of you that you supress because you don't like its expression.

My parents tell me sometimes thanks for just being me and I ask them what they mean and they go on about being a nice thoughtful person etc...I don't see this as part of myself, I am just "not-evil" and I feel somewhat embaressed when they say it - this is part of my shadow self.

I wonder if you can eliminate your blind spots by changing your thinking? Funny synchronicity because I am about to delve into "Prometheus Rising" recommended by nootropic users as "literature more powerful than substances" for improving the brain and changing thought habits.

No more than you can eliminate the blind spots of a car while driving. But you can learn to check them.

Like iknownothing says! The qualities I hid away as a child because adults told me I was being mean.

My younger self was a bossy, dramatic, “manipulative shit” lol. My teen self hid that and I lost all spine, personality, and will to live, soyboy 2000. Circumstance taught me early on that if there’s no my-way, there’s no me; I once lobotomized myself to fit others’ dreams, so I shall sooner walk away forever than remain anything but king of my hill. My simulation now responds to nothing but a fiery whip, what a coincidence that’s the tool I found in the dungeon.

The shadow I’d hidden from myself WAS myself, the part of me closest to whatever true will I must employ in this lifetime.

The blind spot might be perceived differently by friends and family and others, but it's the thing they're least likely to talk to you about.

Unless they're really angry with you and shout it out.  Then you get angry and def/offensive and refuse to accept it any way.  Looking from the inside to the outside is fundamentally different to the other way around.

In any case we would rationalise it away if someone was to gently inform us of it.

This is true. When people give me an honest view, I really try to listen and incorporate the information into my awareness. It's free input. These moments seem to come along in times of stress so I have to work to not get caught up in the situation and block myself from receiving the insight. My kids have been good at this and I give their feedback extra standing. Since You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login started this thread I keep revisiting a moment with my dad where in the heat of a big argument he made an observation about me that came as a total surprise to me. I've thought about it a lot over the years and I'm sure he gave me some insight that nobody else has been vocal about or could see but it rings accurate to me.
